The town has access to the coast through Nokomis Public Beach and Casey Key. The town's population was 3,167 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bradenton–Sarasota–Venice Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The beach dunes have have been preserved to maintain the beauty and integrity of the beach. Due to this effort, five walkovers have been constructed to allow visitor access to the beach without harming the dunes. The unincorporated town includes Nokomis Beach, at the south end of exclusive Casey Key. In addition to the attractions in nearby Sarasota, Nokomis offers lovely Gulf beaches and fishing for visitors, as well as its boat launch ramp and beautiful shoreline.
